The Rape Crisis Center is hosting our
second annual One Billion Rising event, and we’d love to not only invite you to join us, but ask if you’re interested in participating in its design and creation. We’re looking for all sorts of partners—from putting up a table to share your organization’s passion, to dancers who can help us shake the earth into awareness.
If you’re not familiar, One Billion Rising is part of E
ve Ensler’s VDAY project. From their website www.onebillionrising.org :
In 2013, One Billion women and men shook the earth through dance to end violence against women and girls. This year, on 14 February 2014, we are calling on women and men everywhere to harness their power and imagination to rise for justice.
It is a call to survivors to break the silence and release their stories – politically, spiritually, outrageously – through art, dance, marches, ritual, song, spoken word, testimonies and whatever way feels right.
Imagine, One Billion Women releasing their stories, dancing, and speaking out at the places where they need justice, where they need an end to violence against women and girls. Join us! Rise, Release, Dance!
Last year’s event was a great success! Check out our 2013 photos in the menu bar above. At HemisFair Arch Plaza, we had a march, a flash mob, live coverage from NowCAST SA, and foodtrucks. Many joined us, making for a great evening of dancing as we shook the earth into awareness.
